About Me!

You're about to learn about one of the strangest and unlikeliest people to ever teach kindergarten. I  wonder how I ended up here.

I was born, raised in, and currently live and teach in Chicago. It is the greatest city in the world, but I'd really like to live somewhere else someday. Just because.

I teach at a CPS school on the West Side. I have the best teammates I could ask for. My K/1 team is so hardworking, passionate, and on point, and they inspire me to be at my best each day. I have the pleasure of teaching some hilarious, curious, caring, and resilient kids. Even on the challenging days, they keep me going.

I got married in 2013 to the awesomest guy ever. We had a city hall wedding and spent our money on our honeymoon and saving up for a down payment. We bought a condo at the very end of 2014. I'm working on making it my own (all hubby wants is a soccer shrine. The rest is mine!) Oh, and we have two cats that I am obsessed with.

I am so inspired by teacher bloggers and creators. I'm an artist at heart, and I think my reason for becoming a teacher was to do fun crafts with kids all day, like I remember about grade school. But yeah, Common Core and standardized tests are the way of the world, so I REALLY have to stretch my creativity to bring these elements into my classroom. I love seeing what other people are doing in their classroom, and how resourceful teachers can be. I am starting to break into the TPT world, and I'm loving it. It is really making me more aware of how my students learn and how they will respond to a lesson

Here are some randoms: I'm a homebody. I read. I make yummy vegan desserts. I make stuff on my cameo. I love anything dia de los muertos. I watch The Simpsons and It's Always Sunny and Game of Thrones for hours on end. I'm obsessed with Cadillacs. I listen to annoying pop punk from the late 80s. The only sport I care about is hockey {specifically the Blackhawks}. Nicolas Cage and April Ludgate are my spirit animals. I am a PC girl, and I always will be. I like glitter and bright colors and polka dots. I spend way too much time on Pinterest. I've met Neil Gaiman (he is a great guy).

Thanks for stopping by! Feel free to ask anything else you wanna know!

  2. I was going to email you just now, but I can't seem to find an email address on your blog. I just started a Facebook group for Chicago Area Teacher Bloggers. I'm hoping to start planning a teacher meet up for early fall. I'm currently thinking late September/early October. Definitely head over to the Facebook group and join so you can get all the updates!
